A museum is seeking more volunteers to help increase its opening hours.
Newark Town Hall Museum and Art Gallery is seeking new volunteers to join its friendly team, who are responsible for a variety of roles including welcoming visitors, supporting family learning, and collections care.
Becky Fawcett, senior collections and exhibitions officer at Newark Town Hall, said: “As a volunteer you get to meet new people, learn new skills and be part of a friendly museum group. We have a small library to find out more about the history of Newark and local artists.

“There are two socials per year, free tea and coffee, and access to one of Newark’s most beautiful buildings, The Town Hall, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year.”
In particular, volunteers who can give their time in the afternoons from Wednesday to Saturday are sought, in a bid to increase the venue’s opening hours from it’s current times of 10.30am to 1pm from Wednesday to Friday, and 10.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday.
The museum and gallery showcase the town treasures and artwork by local artists or depicting local scenes — including temporary exhibitions in the Spotlight Gallery.
Volunteers must be able to commit a minimum 2.5 hours per month, which is one shift per month, either from 10.30am to 1pm or 1pm to 3.30pm.
Anyone interested in the role should email post@newark.gov.uk or call 01636 680333 for more information and to arrange a visit and chat with Becky who looks after volunteers and the museum.
