A League One outfit have made three quickfire loan signings to aid their play-off hopes with Hull KR and Leigh Leopards players among the trio.

Whilst there is debate and conversations around what the Championship and League One structure will look like next year, the proposed Super Eights-style play-off system will go ahead.

The bottom four teams from the Championship and the top four from League One will battle it out with the plan initially being for the top three to earn a Championship spot in 2026.

That may change now but the play-off push is still being made by so,me clubs including Midlands Hurricanes, coached by former Bradford Bulls boss Mark Dunning.

The Hurricanes sit fifth at the moment, one spot outside the play-offs despite being level on points with fourth-placed Dewsbury Rams. With four more games of the regular season remaining, plenty can change and Midlands will be hoping their three new loanees will help them in their bid for the top four.

Hull KR forward rejoins Midlands Hurricanes

One of the three to sign for the Hurricanes is Hull KR forward Kye Armstrong with the 20-year-old having played for the League One outfit late in 2024, whilst still a Hull FC player.

He made two appearances in that spell and has made three League One appearances already this year for newly-formed Goole Vikings.

On his move, Armstrong said: “I’m buzzing to link back up with the Hurricanes for the rest of the season. This is a club I know from my time on loan last year and I’m ready to rip in and hopefully have a positive end to this season.”

He was the second of three signings with the first being Will Brough, the son of Super League legend Danny Brough. Will signed for Leigh ahead of the season but has been out with injury, however, he’ll now get some competitive action with Midlands.

Having recovered from the dislocated shoulder that sidelined him for so long, he’s understandably keen to make an impact, explaining: “I’m buzzing to be on loan with Midlands and get some games and hopefully wins under my belt. I’ve been enjoying meeting and training with the lads over the last couple of weeks and I’m hoping we can produce a strong bond as one.”

Oldham winger Cian Tyrer was the third addition and he has plenty of pedigree in League One, starring for the Roughyeds in 2024 as he scored 29 tries in just 13 games, however, he’s been more limited in appearances this year.

Speaking on the push for the play-offs, Tyrer said: “I’m really looking forward to joining Midlands. Having spoke to Mark and seeing from an outside perspective what they want to achieve, I was keen to be apart of the journey and helping the team in anyway I can to push for the Super 8s and ultimately promotion.”
