Organizers risk a backlash over Ryder Cup ticket prices for the 2027 matches at Adare Manor.
The PGA of America felt the full wrath of the wider sporting community when the governing body announced its extortionate fees for last year’s showdown at Bethpage – which started at $225 for a practice day and almost quadruple that for the tournament itself.
Which is why it comes as something of a surprise that Ryder Cup Europe seem to be following suit after it was revealed that competition day passes will reach a record high for the matches on this side of the Atlantic.
A limited number of tickets will go on sale to the residents of the island of Ireland on April 24, with the full public ballot opening up to the rest of the world on June 3.
A daily ticket for the Friday, Saturday or Sunday will set fans back €499 – almost double the €260 face value price to attend the matches in Rome three years ago.
The practice days will, of course, be cheaper, with tickets for Tuesday and Wednesday available for €89 for adults and €20 for children under the age of 16. Those prices will rise to €179 and €30 for Thursday, which includes the opening ceremony.
Ryder Cup Europe also say an additional benefit for Irish residents will be thousands of tickets will be available for Tuesday’s practice day as part of the “SuperValu Community Day” courtesy of Musgrave, a leading retailer in the country.
In a statement to reveal the ticket prices, Richard Atkinson, the European Tour Group’s chief Ryder Cup officer, said: “We have extensive plans in place to enhance the onsite experience for fans attending the 2027 Ryder Cup, including a record 20,000 grandstand seats and an increased number of giant screens.”
“For the first time, there will also be an Official Ryder Cup campsite with entertainment, full details of which will be announced in due course.
“We also wanted to ensure that as wide a demographic as possible can be part of, and enjoy, this major global sporting event. Therefore, in addition to a range of different price points for fans, we are grateful to Musgrave, whose support means families from across the island of Ireland will have access to tickets as part of the SuperValu Community Day on the Tuesday of Ryder Cup week.”
