The ATP Madrid Masters 1000 tournament is into Day 2 with the remaining first round matches slated to complete. Day 2 sees a lot of tennis action on the cards and as ever, we preview and predict all the scheduled matches for you.

ATP Madrid Day 2 Predictions
Daniel Altmaier vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo

Head-to-head – Altmaier 1-0 Cerundolo

Neither player arrives in convincing form, so this one feels wide open. They’ve met once already this year, though, and Juan Manuel Cerundolo came through that match comfortably. On clay, the Argentine looks the more natural fit, with better perseverance and point construction from the baseline. Daniel Altmaier can redline and rush opponents with aggression, but Cerundolo’s consistency should hold up better over the longer exchanges. Expect a tight three-set battle, with Cerundolo edging it.
Prediction: Cerundolo in 3

Jaume Munar vs Alexander Shevchenko

Head-to-head – Munar 1-0 Shevchenko

Jaume Munar hasn’t played much in 2026, returning in Barcelona for his first action since Qatar, and he was well beaten in the opening round there, so confidence may be an issue. Alexander Shevchenko hasn’t had a strong year either, making this feel like a matchup where neither player is likely to fully dominate. The difference is that Munar is far more comfortable on clay and generally steadier in extended rallies. Shevchenko can hit through the court, but his error-prone nature often shows up at key moments. Expect a scrappy contest, with Munar finding a way through.
Prediction: Munar in 2

Nuno Borges vs Mariano Navone

Head-to-head – Borges 1-1 Navone

An exciting battle on the cards, with Nuno Borges and Mariano Navone having split their two previous meetings. Borges has surprisingly struggled to find his best level on clay this season, while Navone arrives in strong form and already has a title in Bucharest. Neither player relies on a huge serve, so expect plenty of extended baseline rallies and physical exchanges. In those conditions, Navone’s clay-court patterns and confidence look a better fit right now. Expect the Argentine to edge it, likely in a tight one.
Prediction: Navone in 3

Grigor Dimitrov vs Adolfo Daniel Vallejo

Head-to-head – First Meeting

Grigor Dimitrov has struggled badly this year, but Madrid is a tournament he’s traditionally enjoyed, so he’ll hope the conditions help spark a turnaround. Adolfo Daniel Vallejo has done well to come through qualifying, though the 21-year-old Paraguayan has spent most of his time on the Challenger circuit. This is a significant step up in level, especially against a player with Dimitrov’s experience and shot variety. Vallejo may be able to make it competitive if Dimitrov starts slowly, but the Bulgarian’s serve and all-court game should give him the edge. Expect Dimitrov to come through in three sets.
Prediction: Dimitrov in 3
