A street in Glasgow was closed after an item was destroyed by the bomb squad on Thursday.
Emergency services were called to Dixon Avenue in the Govanhill area after reports of an incident involving fireworks.
Two teenage schoolboys from Holyrood Secondary School were injured during the disturbance and remain in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.
An eyewitness told STV News that there was a group of young teenage boys “launching fireworks” on the street.
Members of the public have been asked to avoid the street, with a wide cordon closing off Dixon Avenue at Cathcart Road, Gartuke Street and Allison Street at Belleisle Street.
An item, believed to be a firework, has been removed by the EOD response team.
The incident was stood down at around 6.30pm on Friday.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to Dixon Avenue in Glasgow on April 23, 2026 following a request from Police Scotland.
“The EOD operator confirmed that an explosion had occurred and has now passed the scene over to the police.”
A police spokesperson said: “The incident in the Dixon Avenue area of Crosshill has now been stood down.
“The cordon has been removed, and all roads have been reopened.
“All residents and local businesses are safe to return.
“Thank you to the public for your patience.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1302 of Thursday, 23 April, 2026.”
