Here are five best courses in Cumbria…
1. Silloth on Solway Golf Club
This course ranks 19th in England and fifth in the North West.
The course is recognised for its rich history and design, initially crafted by David Grant in 1892 and later modified by Willie Park Junior and Alister MacKenzie.
The course is also renowned for its ladies’ golf affiliation, being the practice ground of the Leitch sisters, with Charlotte Cecilia Pitcairn Leitch, achieving global accolades including a record four British titles.
2. Seascale Golf Club
Overlooked by the Sellafield Power Station, Seascale Golf Club, ranks 11th in the North West.
Offering views of the Isle of Man and the Lakeland Hills, the course was designed by Willie Campbell and George Lowe.
3. Appleby Golf Club
At 14th position in the North West, Appleby Golf Club is famed for its remote, expansive moorland setting and panoramic views of the Lakeland Fells.
The course was laid out by Willie Fernie on Brackenber Moor in 1903.
4. Windermere Golf Club
Ranked fourth in Cumbria, the Lake District club celebrated its centenary in 1991.
The course was transformed by George Lowe into a nine-hole course before evolving into an 18-hole course before the end of 1892.
5. Brampton Golf Club
Ranking fifth in Cumbria, the course was designed by James Braid, and came into existence in 1909.
