Sheeraz stopped Berlanga in the fifth round of their July 2025 bout after scoring two knockdowns in round four and ending the fight 17 seconds into the next round. The finish was decisive, but Berlanga says he saw the fight very differently.
During an interview with The Danza Project, Edgar Berlanga insisted that Sheeraz was not a difficult opponent and said a rematch would produce another outcome.“That guy is easy work. I promise you, on God.”
Berlanga then said he wants the fight revisited under better conditions.
“When we run it back, we running it back the right way. We going to make sure none of that sh*t is going down like that,” said Edgar.
He also claimed that Sheeraz knew he was losing before the momentum changed.
“He know he can’t fck with me. I was winning that fight. That’s the type of sht people gotta do to beat a ni**a like me.”
Hamzah Sheeraz earned one of the biggest wins of his career that night and moved forward in the super middleweight picture, while Berlanga has continued to call for another meeting.
Berlanga also recently signed with Zuffa Boxing, which has made no secret of wanting marketable names as it builds its roster. Whether that means steering him through selected in-house fights or matching him quickly with the strongest names at 168 remains to be seen.
Confidence has never been Berlanga’s issue. The tougher part is turning it into wins against top opposition.
