Police and emergency services were called to the incident involving a car and a motorcycle on Northam Bridge in Southampton at 1.20am this morning.

The incident involved a silver VW Polo and a white Yamaha YZF.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 17-year-old from Fareham, was taken to the hospital but subsequently died from his injuries.

His next of kin have been informed, police say.

Two men, a 17-year-old and a 29-year-old from Southampton, who were in the VW Polo, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

Both remain in custody at this time.

A police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank motorists for their patience as the Northam Bridge was closed for several hours before it could be reopened.

“We would like to speak to any witnesses and in particular anyone with relevant dash cam footage of the incident or the moments leading up to it.”
