More than a dozen people have lost their jobs after a whisky company decided to close its restaurant and shop, as well as end tours of its distillery.

Lakes Distillery in Cockermouth, Cumbria, said about 15 jobs were being cut at its Brand Home site, where it housed its bistro.

The company, which was bought by the Nyetimber Group in 2024, said the business had suffered from changes in consumer spending habits and the rising cost of living.

“Financially subsidising this part of the business has been diverting funds away from the core financial objectives and growth plans for The Lakes,” a spokesperson said.
