Emmerdale fans have been wondering whether the flashforwards teased in December could see a major death twist unfold, with a new spoiler fuelling this idea on the ITV soap

Amid some shocking death news revealed about an upcoming Emmerdale plot, could an unaired flashforward finally be explained? Perhaps one that may have aired could now be linked to a separate storyline too, amid speculation from fans.

Cast your minds back to December when we got a glimpse into the futures of five characters. One of those characters was Mackenzie Boyd, and we saw him frantically running through some woods while there was no context.

It comes amid new claims that Mack, played by actor Lawrence Robb, will be killed off in a shocking new storyline that sees killer John Sugden strike again. With that news, we surely have to see Mack’s flashforward very soon – and it’s possibly linked to John as predicted by fans months ago.

But could the death twist also explain the inconsistencies with Cain Dingle’s flashforward, compared to a similar scene that aired weeks ago? Fans believed Cain’s flashforward had finally aired with the funeral believed to be his son Nate Robinson’s.

But what if it wasn’t Nate’s funeral Cain was attending? Cain was seen in a winter coat, mourning at a graveside with flowers on the grave. The mirrored scene that aired a few weeks back at Nate’s funeral seemed to reveal it was his grave, while the flowers looked different and Cain wasn’t wearing a coat, given it was spring.

Now there is every chance the scene was Nate’s funeral, and the inconsistencies were down to the fact the flashforward was filmed in winter and it needed to conceal who had died. But what if fans are right and this was a scene to air later on, in autumn or winter this year?

Could it be Mack’s grave, or maybe Mack’s funeral at least? Might Cain be visiting his son’s grave as he says farewell to Mack, or even after the truth about killer John comes to light?

Fans are certainly speculating that this is what will happen and that the final flashforward or flashforwards have finally been explained. One fan commented: “Maybe Cain will be at his grave, as the scene at Nate’s looked different.”

It’s said Mack will be murdered by killer John after he finds out the truth about him. Nothing has been confirmed by the soap as of yet, but reports state Mack will be killed off around autumn.

Just months ago Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw told The Mirror that Mack would take centre stage in a “life-changing” new storyline around September, alongside Aaron Dingle. Aaron is John’s husband, and surely there’s every chance Mack’s death and the flashforward will tie into this big plot.

Laura said they’d built a set especially for the scenes, and she hinted at there being a week of big episodes. Fans will just have to tune in to see how it all ties together.
