Adrian Otaegui surged to the top of the leaderboard following a brilliant 62 at the Volvo China Open.

The 33-year-old, who represents the United Arab Emirates, began the day five shots behind overnight leaders Bernd Wiesberger and Shaun Norris, but reeled the pair in with his nine-under-par third round.

Otaegui carded an eagle, eight birdies and a bogey to set the clubhouse target at 16 under, which could not be matched after Wiesberger’s bogey at the 15th saw him slip one back during his 68.

“Very, very happy with the way I finished, the way I stayed patient so very, very happy,” Otaegui said.

“I’m confident, so all I want to do is keep going, keep doing the same that I’m doing and give myself a chance for tomorrow.”

There are no Irish in the field at this year’s tournament.
