A major security operation is under way in Belfast following an incident outside a PSNI station.

The police have sealed off roads leading to Dunmurry police station in the south of the city.

It follows reports of a loud bang and videos circulating on social media of a vehicle on fire at the station around midnight.

In a statement, the PSNI said it is attending the scene of a “security alert” in the Kingsway area of Dunmurry.

Fire crews and police officers worked together to put out the blaze.

The PSNI said cordons had been placed in the vicinity of the scene and an evacuation took place.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

Several weeks ago, what the PSNI described as a “crude but viable bomb” was driven into Lurgan police station in Co Armagh after a fast-food delivery driver was hijacked at gunpoint and forced to drive his vehicle there.
