The crash involving a lorry and two pedestrians, a man and a woman in their 60s, saw emergency services rush to the Town Quay at 10.46am yesterday.

As previously reported, a man sustained serious and life-threatening injuries, and a woman suffered serious injuries, and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Both remain in the hospital at this time.

Following the crash, a 69-year-old man from Sandown was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

He has been released under investigation, say police.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We would like to thank motorists for their patience as the Town Quay was closed for several hours before it could be reopened.

“We would like to speak to any witnesses and, in particular, anyone with relevant dash cam footage of the incident or the moments leading up to it.
