ScotRail has reminisced on some of the strangest animals that have been spotted on railway lines in and around Glasgow. From a marmoset monkey in Cambuslang to a boar in Wishaw, there have been plenty of “unexpected furry visitors” to our tracks over the years.
The Scottish rail service shared its list of wild encounters on X this afternoon, saying: “Over the years, we’ve had our fair share of unexpected furry visitors that have made our shifts pass by that wee bit quicker!
“Here are our top picks!”
Marmoset monkey Cammy was once spotted perched on a banister at Cambuslang station, tucking into a tin of peaches. A picture of the incident shared by ScotRail shows confused passengers gazing up at Cammy from the platform below.
Also on the list of memorable animal encounters was Valentino the cow, who wandered onto the tracks after absconding from Pollok Country Park in 2020. Valentino was caught on CCTV standing on the tracks at Pollokshaws West after his great escape.

A large wild boar was also once seen next to the tracks near Wishaw, as ScotRail joked it “fancied a bit of trainspotting.”

And while an impressive array of animals have wondered onto Glasgow tracks, ScotRail also shared stories from further afield, recounting that a large stag was previously seen standing on a platform at Glenfinnan.
The train service added that the stag was “happy to strike a few poses for Steven, one of our Station Maintenance colleagues.”
