The German was in the unenviable position of taking the microphone hours after Motherwell dented their title hopes

Determined Danny Rohl has confessed Rangers are in the last chance saloon and must beat Hearts if they want to be champions.

The German was in the unenviable position of taking the microphone at the club’s muted Player of the Year ceremony – hours after their chastening 3-2 defeat to Motherwell left them four points behind Hearts with four games to go.

Rangers‘ official accounts went silent on social media with fans left angered by the defeat, but it’s understood Emmanuel Fernandez lifted the player of the year, Jack Butland won players’ player of the year and loan star Mikey Moore earned the young player nod.

Then Rohl delivered an impassioned speech as he attempted to rally a deflated fanbase by admitting it’s all-but win or bust at Tynecastle next Monday before travelling to Celtic Park six days later.

Speaking at the awards dinner, Rohl said: “Last but not least, I arrived with my team, in October. The atmosphere was not well. But, as we showed as a club, what we can do, if we stick together.

“These players, our players, have everything to go again next Monday. It’s a Final, we have to win, guys. This group, our players, will do everything to win this game. And we’ll see who wins at the end of the season.”
