Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is a doubt for Hull KR’s showdown with Wigan Warriors. The veteran prop was not named in the Rovers squad that defeated Castleford Tigers 36-6, with his absence confirmed to be the result of a shoulder issue.

Waerea-Hargreaves, who will retire at the end of the season, now faces a battle to be fit for next Friday’s clash, a rematch of last year’s Grand Final.

It is an enormous game in many ways for Rovers. Victory would move them six points clear of the Warriors and all but ensure they end the campaign with the League Leaders’ Shield. It would also end a four-match losing streak against Wigan in the process.

“He had a minor shoulder,” Willie Peters confirmed. “We will have a look at that during the week and see where he’s at.”

Meanwhile, Peters revealed Mikey Lewis had an injection in his shoulder at half-time after suffering an injury during the first half of the game. He was caught late by Castleford forward Jeremiah Simbiken in the lead-up to the first try.

“He had an injection at half-time, so we’ll have a look at it. But I mean, he finished the game at the end of the day. I don’t think it’s major because he finished the game. So it’s part and parcel of this brutal game.”

On the performance, Peters added: “It was sort of a weird game. I thought we did a lot of good things, but then also, yardage penalties took the pressure off.

“Defence was good for majority of that game. But you look at that second half, and if they score there, it’s a four-point difference and game on, and who knows what happens off the back of that.

“But what I did like was a lot of good things that we did do which put a lot of fatigue in them. And then the points come, you know, at the back end because of what we’ve done throughout the game. So we knew what we’re going to get from Cas.

“Will that performance cut it next week? No it won’t. But a win is a win.”
