Coronation Street star Faye Brookes has addressed the possibility of a comeback for Kate Connor amid pleas from fans.

Kate was a prominent figure on the cobbles between 2015 and 2019, during which time she had some major storylines.

Perhaps the most popular among fans was her relationship with Rana Habeeb, which ended in tragedy on their wedding day.

After a romantic double proposal in the Rovers, the pair were all set to tie the knot, until the roof of Underworld unexpectedly caved in on top of Rana.

Her injuries were severe, and she sadly died before she ever made it down the aisle.

Poor Kate struggled in the aftermath of her loss, and eventually left Weatherfield to go travelling.

Since her departure, fans have been begging actress Faye to reprise her role, she recently told the Express.

‘I get a lot of, “Why is Kate not coming back?” I think that’s a really lovely thing to have them want me to come back to Coronation Street, because Kate didn’t die.

‘She’s still alive and travelling, and those doors left open, and also that’s an opportunity to be had in itself.’

Faye went on to admit that she is enjoying playing other roles at the moment, but would be willing to return to Corrie in the future.

‘I think going back…yes, that door is open, and if that is in my journey, great. But I love the fact that I am continuing with new projects, new characters, and the fans are just as supportive,’ she enthused.

She continued to praise her fans, adding: ‘Coronation Street catapulted my career, so I never condemn it. I always celebrate it. And I think that’s what the fans are doing for me at the same time.

‘It’s quite a lovely thing. I’ve been so lucky to have gained such a lovely following from my time at Coronation Street, and they’ve been nothing but supportive.’

Faye is currently starring in Double Double at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester, alongside fellow Corrie alumna Daniel Brocklebank.

Daniel’s character Billy Mayhew was killed off earlier this year in the dramatic Corriedale pile-up, after being left to die in the burning minivan by abuser Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).

Now, the pair have reunited to star in the two-hander play until May 30.

Having first debuted in 1986, Double Double is described as ‘My Fair Lady meets Dial M For Murder,’ with the synopsis continuing: ‘This story of power, love and illusion will draw you in and keep you guessing until the very last line.’
