The Penguin Peloton are aiming to raise £50,000 for Penguins Against Cancer, a charity set up in 2013 by Guy’s Hospital Penguins, the oldest team from the oldest rugby club in the world.
Between May 1 and 4, the team will be cycling from Windsor to Guy’s Hospital Tower in London, via the Cotswolds, Wales and Hampshire, passing through Hannington, Bramley and Yateley.
Dr Charlie Beardmore, President of Penguins Against Cancer and Chairman of The Penguin Peloton, said: “Everyone is really looking forward to it. It’s a great cause, and people get behind the cause as all the money we raise will go towards cancer research, cancer treatment and hospice care.”

The charity has no administration or running costs, with every donation going directly to one of its six research funds, each named after people who have had cancer.
Dr Beardmore said: “So far, the charity has raised and dispersed £705,000 and there’s more coming. Hopefully, people will get onboard, all money donated goes to good causes.”
The journey marks The Penguin Peloton’s sixth annual ride, with previous rides taking them to Portsmouth, Paris, Bruges, Blackpool and Normandy to raise money.

The team raised over £80,000 last year, surpassing their target of £50,000 as ‘people are very generous.’
This year, the 32-member team, accompanied by a four-person support crew, will be cycling around 350 miles in four days and expect to reach the Basingstoke villages on May 4.
Dr Beardmore said: “The idea is to make it challenging but fun and interesting.

“It’s a serious subject; we’re trying to make this a little fun. The cycling and the grants we give are to celebrate people, not simply mourn loss.”
