There are lives that follow a straight line—and then there are lives like that of Tony Murray, which unfold in vivid, unexpected colour.
Star Man – Tony’s Life in Colour is more than an art exhibition; it is an invitation to step inside the extraordinary world of a man who refused to be defined by just one path.
Born in Bellshill in May 1967, Tony’s early years in Rutherglen laid the foundation for a life rich in curiosity and connection.

From engineering workshops in Cambuslang and West Lothian to lecture halls at University of Strathclyde, his journey was grounded in discipline and intellect.
Yet even then, there were signs of something more—a restless spirit that would later take him across continents in a restored pickup truck and on motorbike journeys through Europe, weaving stories as colourful as the landscapes he traversed.
When Tony faced a life-altering diagnosis in 2004, his response was not retreat but reinvention. In the remote beauty of Balnakeil Craft Village, he rebuilt not only a home but a creative identity. It was here that his passion for art, first sparked in his youth, returned with force and purpose.

The works showcased in Star Man capture the breadth of Tony’s passions: the drama of mountaineering, the rhythm of football, the serenity of nature, and the depth of philosophical reflection.
His paintings are not merely images—they are experiences, layered with emotion, memory, and imagination. Each piece offers a glimpse into a life lived fully, even in the face of ongoing health challenges.
Returning later to Glasgow’s south side, Tony continued to create, drawing inspiration from the city’s architecture, its music scene, and the enduring presence of family and friends. By the time of his passing at 58, he had produced over 100 artworks—most of which filled his modest flat in a vibrant, deeply personal gallery.
This exhibition seeks to recreate that space: a joyful, immersive celebration of creativity and resilience. Hosted by Project Ability, it stands as both tribute and testament.

Visitors are not only invited to view the work, but to become part of Tony’s legacy. Proceeds from sales will support Project Ability, alongside vital causes such as Macmillan Cancer Support and British Heart Foundation.
