The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared a never-before-seen photo of their new family dog – and revealed its name for the first time.
William and Kate took to social media today to post a photo of their new pet spaniel, revealing that he is celebrating his first birthday and that his name is Otto. They wrote: “Welcome to the family, Otto! 1 today” alongside a cake and party emojis. The photo of the dog was taken by Kate with him being the son of their other spaniel, Orla, who gave birth to four puppies last May. They starred in William’s 43rd birthday photo on social media last June.
Earlier this week, William and Kate shared a holiday snapshot of their family, lying together in the grass in the sunshine, to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.

In the new image taken by photographer Matt Porteous in Cornwall, the couple are pictured with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, relaxing barefoot during the Easter break. Orla and Otto make an appearance next to William in the picture.
William and Kate have had older dog Orla since 2020 after their first dog together, cocker spaniel Lupo – which they were given as a wedding present from Kate’s brother James Middleton – died unexpectedly.
Kate revealed the family had kept one of Orla’s puppies earlier this year while on a trip to a textiles factory in Wales. As she chatted to staff at Huit Denim in Cardigan, the owner’s dog Barney ran around her feet
The princess gave it a gentle pat as she talked about her own pets, revealing the family had a then eight-month-old puppy alongside their older dog Orla. She told them: “So we’ve got a little puppy. He’s only eight months and Orla is five.”

Orla has appeared with the family at several events, such as a polo match and Windsor, and was given a starring role in William’s episode of the Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy.
The Prince of Wales was seen introducing the pet to the Hollywood actor, who gave her dog treats, and was later seen resting at William’s feet as he shared a pint in the pub with Levy.
Otto’s birthday comes at a busy time for personal celebrations for William and Kate and their family. Last week, the family marked the eighth birthday of Prince Louis, sharing a brand new photo and video of him playing on the beach in Cornwall.
While earlier this week, the couple marked their 15th wedding anniversary with a new picture and a visit to to the education charity IntoUniversity, one of the organisations which benefited from their royal wedding gift fund.
They met Year 5 pupils from Victory Primary School at the charity’s Walworth site in London at a workshop designed to introduce students to university life. The couple also spent their anniversary having lunch at The Goring hotel, where Kate stayed the night before their grand royal wedding.
Meanwhile, tomorrow, they will be celebrating the birthday of their daughter, Princess Charlotte, who turns 11. Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, at 8.34am on May 2 2015, weighing 8lb 3oz. She owes her middle names to Queen Elizabeth II and her late grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales.
