British singer Bonnie Tyler has been admitted to Faro Hospital in the Algarve, where she is receiving care after undergoing emergency surgery.
The 74-year-old artist, who has lived for several years in Albufeira, is currently in the intermediate care unit of the hospital’s emergency department.
According to reports in the national press, the singer – known for hits such as Total Eclipse of the Heart, It’s a Heartache and Holding Out for a Hero – had been experiencing severe abdominal pain in recent days. She later sought medical help and was taken in for urgent surgery to treat an intestinal perforation.
Her condition is described as stable, though she remains under constant medical supervision.
The administration of the local health authority ULS Algarve, responsible for Faro Hospital, has declined to comment, stating it does not provide information on individual cases.
Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler rose to international prominence in the late 1970s and established herself as one of the era’s most distinctive voices, noted for a powerful, husky tone that set her apart in mainstream pop. Across her career, she has earned multiple Grammy and Brit Award nominations and was appointed an MBE in 2022 for her services to music.
