Minions are back for mayhem in Minions & Monsters.
The Despicable Me franchise is one of the highest-grossing animated film series in history. It was produced by Illumination alongside Universal Pictures, following the story of evil supervillain Gru as he tries to become the best (or worst) in the world. However, the introduction of his wife, Lucy, and their adopted daughters proves that villainy may not be the best career path. The introduction of the iconic yellow Minions took over the world and became a cultural phenomenon.
The final trailer for the upcoming animated spin-off has arrived as the beloved yellow creatures take over Hollywood and must protect it from a monster invasion. Minions & Monsters follows the Minions in Hollywood as they try to make their own monster movie, but after unleashing actual monsters, they must team up with a mysterious green creature and save the world.
The Despicable Me franchise continues to bring in big numbers, including its latest Despicable Me 4, which grossed an incredible $971 million worldwide. However, at the time of writing, no official announcement had been made on whether there will be a fifth installment. The movie series began in 2010. However, the real stars came from Gru’s sidekicks, the hundreds of Minions under his employment. Their popularity led to the 2015 movie Minions, followed by its sequel, Minions: The Rise of Gru.
The 2015 movie wasn’t met with terrific reviews and only received a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, its true success lies in the box office, which had the film gross over $1.15 billion worldwide. The 2022 sequel, The Rise of Gru, grossed over $940 million worldwide, proving that this franchise is one of the best animated movie series.
It was also revealed that Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges has joined the cast and is also adding Pierre Coffin, Jesse Eisenberg, Christoph Waltz, Zoey Deutch, Trey Parker, and Allison Janney. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri spoke about the upcoming animated movie in an official statement:
“The Minions have always had a wonderfully subversive spirit, and Minions & Monsters delivers a full dose of irreverence and comedic mayhem. Pierre and his Illumination team have brought a level of artistry to the film that has thrilled me all throughout production. The voice cast is filled with exceptional talent. The film’s story is unexpected and delightful, and perhaps the most lovely surprise is how Minions & Monsters serves to honor cinema, its origins, and the comedians who are the original inspiration for these adorable little guys.”
Minions & Monsters will premiere on July 1.
