Free cycling and bike maintenance sessions have been launched to encourage more people to keep active.

The Wear Wheels sessions, run by Sunderland Community Action Group, will be held between May and August and are open to people living in the city.

They will include two-hour guided bike rides starting from St Peter’s cycling hub and will take in a number of the city’s cycling routes.

Sunderland Community Action Group’s project manager Richy Duggan said the sessions were open to anyone, including those “completely new to cycling”.
