The results are in for a historic 2026 Senedd Election, with all 16 of Wales’ constituencies declaring six successful candidates.

Plaid Cymru has become the biggest party, securing 43 seats. Reform UK follows behind with 34.

Welsh Labour have suffered a significant collapse, gaining just nine seats.

A new voting system, using the D’Hondt method, means that the results are supposed to more proportionally reflect the number of votes each party receives.

To get an outright majority, a party needed at least 49 seats overall.

You can see the breakdown of each constituency’s party results below:

Labour have been the only party in power in Wales since devolution began, so any change to that status quo would be historic.

Both the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK only had one Senedd Member in the last Welsh Parliament term. The Green Party have never had an MS, so any seats would be a first for them.

Following the results, a new First Minister will be chosen in the coming days. This has to be done within 28 days of the election, so by 3 June. This may take place in the first meeting of the new Welsh Parliament.

Candidates for the position are nominated by MSs – anyone can be nominated and members can put themselves forwards.

If multiple names are put forward, someone must get more votes than all of the other candidates combined to be successful. If no one achieves this, the candidate with fewest votes is discounted and further votes are held until one person does receive a majority.
