Marcus Rashford was quizzed about his immediate future after Barcelona title win
Marcus Rashford admitted he would love to extend his spell at Barcelona, though he remains unsure what will happen this summer. The 28‑year‑old, on loan from Manchester United, scored the opening goal against Real Madrid with a stunning free‑kick on Sunday night.
Ferran Torres doubled the lead minutes later as Hansi Flick’s side sealed the La Liga title with a 2‑0 win over their biggest rivals. Rashford is living out a childhood dream with a successful season in Spain after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
With the campaign nearing its end, speculation continues to surround the England international’s future. Barcelona hold a £26million purchase option to make his move permanent, which they have until June 15 to trigger.

While Rashford has repeatedly said he would love to stay in Catalonia, he admitted post‑match that he still does not know what the future holds.
“I don’t know. I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. So we will see,” Rashford said in the mixed zone.
The forward is far from a guaranteed starter given the wealth of attacking talent at Flick’s disposal. He is competing with the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha for a place in the side, while Barca’s continued reliance on their academy has often left him operating from the bench.

Reports have suggested the Spanish giants, who continue to face financial difficulties, are unlikely to trigger Rashford’s buyout clause while other indications say the transfer fee and wage package are viewed as too high. It’s understood Barca would prefer to extend the loan deal, given his wages would go back up to £315,000‑a‑week if a permanent transfer is agreed.
A return to Old Trafford is also unlikely with The Manchester Evening News’ understanding that United would prefer to cash in on his transfer despite there being the possibility that Michael Carrick could be appointed as the new head coach. That alone may not be enough to earn him another chance, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen to remove his hefty wages from the books.
United are desperate to cut their wage bill this summer, with Casemiro and Jadon Sancho both set to leave – their departures would save the club more than £500,000‑a‑week.
Flick, meanwhile, has always expressed his pleasure on working with Rashford whenever asked about his future. The German coach has spoken about his loanee, saying: “I’m very happy with Marcus.

“Yeah, this team is a wonderful team. They’re going to win so much in the future as well. So, to be a part of that would be special. So we will see.”
