FKA twigs hit with countersuit over artist name · News ⟋ RAUS pop duo The Twigs allege the pop star used her influence to “weaken, if not destroy” their intellectual property.
A new lawsuit has landed against FKA twigs in an ongoing legal spat over the artist’s name.
Responding to a lawsuit filed in March by the Eusexua artist, real name Tahliah Barnett, ’90s alt-pop duo The Twigs have now countersued for copyright infringement. The Los Angeles-based band’s complaint, which was filed on Monday, May 11th and seen by Billboard, alleges that Barnett used her greater fame and wealth to “weaken, if not destroy” The Twigs’ intellectual property.
Barnett’s lawsuit, meanwhile, seeks to gain complete control over the FKA twigs trademark via jury trial. It makes the case for zero likelihood of confusion between the two acts. The action follows years of cease-and-desist letters and legal threats from The Twigs, including a 2014 lawsuit that resulted in Barnett adopting the “FKA” prefix. Barnett had previously offered the band $15,000 as an amnesty payment
