Marcus Rashford’s future remains up in the air, with Manchester United and Barcelona yet to formally agree a deal for the player ahead of the summer transfer window

Marcus Rashford is reportedly willing to go to extreme lengths in order to secure a permanent transfer to Barcelona. The Manchester United forward, who has spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Camp Nou, is keen to stay in Catalonia beyond the summer.
Although Barcelona and United have been in discussions for several months, the two sides have still not reached an agreement – leaving Rashford’s future uncertain. United are holding firm on their £26.2million (€30m) valuation of the player – a price Barcelona are currently unwilling to meet.
However, Rashford is now reportedly prepared to take drastic action to help push the transfer through. According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Rashford had already reached an in-principle agreement on a three-year contract with Barcelona that would see a 40 per cent cut to his Old Trafford salary.
However, with talks stalling, he is now ready to abandon that proposal and instead sign a five-year deal – believing this could be the ‘only option’ to make the move financially workable for the club.

Barcelona’s widely reported financial restrictions have complicated negotiations, with the club preferring another loan deal instead of a permanent transfer. The problem centres on how the £26.2m fee would be spread across the length of Rashford’s contract, affecting the club’s accounting and balance sheet.
United, however, are unwilling to approve another loan move and maintain that Rashford must depart on a permanent basis or not at all. As a result, Rashford is said to be prepared to extend the proposed deal to five years, enabling Barcelona to spread the transfer fee over a longer timeframe and reduce the yearly financial strain.

Rashford has registered 14 goals and 14 assists in 48 appearances for Barcelona, who have been impressed by his form this season.
With Ruben Amorim – under whom Rashford’s relationship with United deteriorated – no longer in charge, a return to Old Trafford is not completely ruled out, especially with Rashford’s former team-mate, Michael Carrick, expected to be appointed permanent manager in the coming days.
However, Rashford’s preference has remained unchanged throughout the season: he wants to remain at Barcelona. Despite managerial changes at the Red Devils and the possibility of a fresh start, there is little sign that his position on a long-term move to Spain has changed.
