A choir of Welsh school boys have been eliminated from Britain’s Got Talent. Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf Boys Choir performed in the fourth semi-final which aired on Saturday, May 16, where they reached the top three, losing out to magical musician Rafferty Coope.
They performed their rendition of Myles Smith’s song Stargazing which left the judges and audience stunned. Members of the audience were begging Simon Cowell to give them his Golden Buzzer, however he later awarded it to spoken word performer Sonny Green.
During the semi final the choir competed against Epic Sax Guy, vocalist Kristel Herrera, hip-hop artist Ren DMC, pyrotechnic musical act Wei Yamin and acrobatic troupe Welsch Master Team. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter
After they concluded their performance the judges gave the choir a standing ovation.
Amanda Holden said: “Oh my goodness. Boys, the harmonising, the pick, everything about it was absolutely beautiful, especially the way you didn’t take your eyes off him, and all the time I kept thinking this could be the next John Lewis soundtrack for Christmas. So hopefully, someone from there is watching because it would be beautiful. Congratulations.”
KSI added: “I’m so proud of each and every one of you. Honestly, that was marvellous. That was absolutely marvellous. A fantastic rendition of Stargazing, from the solo act in the middle there I see you, to all of you in unison together, it was absolutely mind-blowing. It just, it put a smile to my face the whole time, so I loved it.”
Alesha said: “Yeah, I thought the song choice was fantastic. The harmonies were beautiful. I love how it built towards the end. Bravo, young man, for starting the song all alone. Never easy to do. This was a really strong performance, guys. Really proud of all of you. Well done.”
Simon finally said: “Well, that’s what a choir should sound like, right? Seriously, not just a bunch of people singing. You all had your different parts. I like the light and shade. Listen to this one, they love you. I love the key change. It was better than the first audition. This is really, really good. I’m having a hard time tonight.”
After receiving great feedback from the judges, one of the young men, Rhodri said: “That felt amazing. The feedback from the judges was really good and I think all the boys should be really proud of themselves.
Another member of the choir Rhys said he knew Wales was behind them, adding: “I know all of our parents have been sharing the link for the votes around every contact they have.”
The school left Cardiff for the semi-final on Friday, May 16 after some of the members had completed their GCSE and A-Level exams that morning. Their conductor Lloyd Macey said: “They just finished their GCSE exams Friday. We left on the bus, we came straight to London, what better way to finish their exams than to celebrate at the semi final of Britain’s Got Talent.
“I’m so proud of them all. Honestly, it’s more than just singing. Singing, growing confidence with our friends, family, teachers. Like KSI and Simon have said, they’re really happy with their confidence and that’s what it’s all about. You’ll believe in yourself boys for the rest of your life.”

The Welsh school choir first captured the attention of the Britain’s Got Talent judges with their rendition of Never Enough from The Greatest Showman during their audition.
During their first performance, Simon said that he had a “little surprise” for his fellow judges, revealing that choirmaster Lloyd Macey had previously competed on The X Factor and that he had encountered both him and the choir before.
Following their outstanding audition, Amanda proclaimed they had done “Wales proud”.
She said: “I love that song. The arrangement, the harmonising. I thought you did Wales proud.” Aleesha Dixon commended choirmaster Lloyd, saying “I think a great choir needs a strong leader and Lloyd, you are a fantastic leader. I enjoyed watching you just as much as I did the choir.”
Simon then said: “I actually got quite emotional, this was just brilliant. This is what a great choir is all about. Having fun. Great song choices. Great leader.”
A clearly delighted Simon added: “You are going back to Wales with four gigantic yeses.”

The grand final of Britain’s Got Talent is scheduled for Saturday, May 30.
Audiences can anticipate seeing singer Matty Juniosa, who earned Amanda Holden’s golden buzzer, along with performer Anastasiia and her dog Salsa in the grand final, having triumphed in the first semi-final.
They will be accompanied by second semi-final victors Sadeck Berrabah and LMA, who won Alesha Dixon’s Golden Buzzer, plus the extraordinary magician Fabian Fox.
Also advancing were third semi-final victors Liwei Yang, who earned KSI’s Golden Buzzer, and comedian Ted Hill, who secured the audience vote.
Additionally, they will be joined by tonight’s semi-final winners, Sonny Green who won Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer, and magical musician Rafferty Coope who secured the audience vote.
