A champion racehorse is in need of a new home after retirement.

Sophie, previously called Sophie’s Illusion, is a red thoroughbred mare who had to retire after injuries to her left hock and right fetlock. However, the 11-year-old was investigated by MSPCA’s vet “and she is quite sound and comfortable,” the nonprofit wrote.

“Sophie was originally adopted out after her racing career ended as a light walk/trot horse, but based on her age and the bony changes in her legs, we are recommending her for a companion-only home,” MSPCA wrote. “She is simply stunning to look at out in a pasture!”

During her time as a racehorse, she competed 12 times. Two of those times she came in first place and she came in second twice. A majority of the races were in 2018.

MSPCA describes Sophie as affectionate and patient.
