Serena and Venus Williams are two of the greatest players in the history of the WTA Tour.

Venus recently made a comeback to the WTA Tour, winning a singles match at 45 years old.

The former world number one then took a wildcard into the Cincinnati Open, but Venus lost in the first round to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Venus is already confirmed to play mixed doubles at the US Open this year, and now she has also been predicted to reunite with younger sister Serena, who retired three years ago.

Serena sent tennis fans into a frenzy three weeks ago after releasing a social media video of her practicing on a tennis court.

Following Venus’ return, this only ramped up speculation about a potential return out of retirement for Serena at the upcoming US Open.

Serena originally said farewell at the 2022 US Open, but someone who is close to her believes that may not be the final time we have seen her at the New York major.

Rick Macci coached both Serena and Venus as children, and he has now revealed that he thinks they will play doubles together at the US Open.

He wrote in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Asked if Serena will play doubles with Vee at the OPEN. My gut is probably because at the end of the day Serena can still play even though she has been away. Her serve is still one of the best on the planet and when she competes her mindset is like granite.”

Serena and Venus Williams’ doubles record at the US Open

Although they were mainly focussed on singles, the Williams sisters also won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together and three Olympic gold medals.

Two of those 14 Grand Slam doubles titles came at the US Open, winning the title in both 1999 and 2009.

Despite this, the US Open was statistically their weakest Grand Slam tournament together with an 82% win-loss record.

The last time they played at the US Open together was in 2022 for Serena’s farewell, where they lost in the first round.

Venus has since played doubles with another WTA player, something she previously claimed she would not do.

If Serena does decide to make a U-turn on her retirement for doubles competition, the tournament will get underway on Thursday, August 28.
