The Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride will take place on Sunday, July 5, and organisers are hoping to beat last year’s fundraising total of £24,190.
Peter Smith-Nicholls, one of the organisers, said: “It’s been a bit of an achievement to keep the event going for 38 years, and to mark the milestone we are encouraging as many cyclists as possible to cycle the 38 miles in our 38th year.
“Of course, other routes are available, including the 48 and 58 mile rides.”

The ride supports Macmillan Cancer Support, which helped more than 600 people through its support line in Dorset in 2025 and more than 800 through its specialist teams.
Claire Treasure, relationship fundraising manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for Peter and the team for continuing to organise this event for Macmillan.
“The work that goes into this event not only behind the scenes throughout the year but on the day itself as well as managing a huge team of volunteers is no mean feat and we are very lucky to have such a great bunch of volunteers who make it all happen.
“Macmillan relies almost entirely on donations from the public and without the incredible generosity and unwavering dedication of our valued supporters, volunteers, those who take part and sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to continue to do all that we can for the people that need us most.”
