Hayward, 20 from Marlborough, was one of eight players selected to be part of an international golf match between England and France on May 16 and 17.
The England team enjoyed a tremendous Saturday, winning all four of the morning foursomes, and ending the day 8-4 up, before seeing it home on Sunday with a 13-11 victory to claim the trophy.
Hayward was partnered with Ben Bolton in the foursomes and won the point comfortably by two strokes against Tom De Herrypon and Tao Pemerika, although he was defeated by Noa Auch-Roy in the singles on Saturday.
Up against some stiff opposition on Sunday, his partnership with Bolton saw him lose to Noa Auch-Roy and Octave Bailo, and also in the singles to Oscar Couilleau, but the team managed to come through and claim the win.
England Golf Men’s Performance Manager Ben Gorvett said: “Against such a strong French team in such a historic match, at a fantastic venue, and to come away with the trophy, is a true testament to the quality that our players possess. It was a battle out there.
“Winning the Saturday foursomes 4-0 gave us a great platform, but we knew the French team would come out fighting in every session after that and that they did!
“The resilience and grit our players showed Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon is a trait that the players should be immensely proud of. They dug deep, and they played hard for the Rose, for each other and our travelling support group.
“We are fortunate, and I am grateful, to have a world-class coach in Rob Watts, and to have our Performance Director, Nigel Edwards, Madam President and our CEO providing vital support to myself and the players during this victory, which enables us to keep our momentum moving forward.”
Hayward was also part of the England team that won the 2025 Women’s and Men’s Home Internationals against Scotland, as he has become a regular member of the selections from Golf England.
This is in addition to his strong amateur career, having had five wins since 2024, and he has finished in the top ten of each of his last four tournaments, including the Italian International Amateur Championship.
