St Helens prop George Delaney has been charged by Super League disciplinary following his high shot on Friday night against Wakefield Trinity. The forward connected with the head of Wakefield’s Lachlan Walmsley and was shown a yellow card for his actions with many believing the referee should have shown a red instead.
The incident has been looked at by the Match Review Panel and Delaney has been handed a Grade C charge for head contact and five disciplinary points. However, given his lack of previous, Delaney has avoided a suspension with a fine being deemed sufficient.
It means the forward will be eligible to take on Huddersfield Giants this weekend at the Totally Wicked Stadium and that comes as a huge boost to Paul Wellens and the Saints.
Curtis Sironen has also been charged but his Grade A late contact on the passer was worth just one disciplinary point, meaning no further action has been taken.
One player has been banned this week with Jeremiah Simbiken’s previous coming back to bite him. The Castleford Tigers man has been given a one-match ban for a Grade A late contact charge, ensuring he will sit out of this week’s clash with Leeds Rhinos at The Jungle.
Leeds’ Morgan Gannon has been fined and given three disciplinary points for his Grade B late contact against Leigh Leopards, while Loghan Lewis and Liam Watts have been hit with the same punishment for their respective Grade B head contact and dangerous contact charges.
