A man was slashed across the face in Toxteth tonight (Friday, May 22). Emergency services descended on Toxteth after a man in his 20s was slashed in the face on Asbridge Street, just off Lodge Lodge, shortly after 6.15pm.
The man was taken to hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries to his arm and face, which Merseyside Police described as “deep”. Police cordoned off Asbridge Street and Cawdor Street, off Granby Street, following the incident and an investigation has been launched with CCTV footage, witness enquiries and forensic examinations ongoing.
When the ECHO visited the scene on Friday evening a man near the police cordon on Cawdor Street said someone had been attacked near Lodge Lane and ran towards Cawdor Street.

He said there was a “trail of blood on the floor”. The ECHO saw clear marks of blood on the street. The police helicopter could also be seen hovering in the area as forensics officers work on the ground. Police at the scene said they do not know when the road will be reopened.
Detective Inspector Richard Shillito said: “We are in the early stages of an investigation to establish exactly what happened on Asbridge Street and the surrounding area earlier this evening.
“We are appealing to witnesses to contact police if they saw anything suspicious in the area at around 6.15pm.

“Similarly if you live on Asbridge Street and have any doorbell footage from 8pm please contact police. This information could be vital to our investigation.”
