M&S has confirmed their Sparks membership scheme is “fully back online” after the retailer’s online systems were hit by a damaging cyber attack earlier this year.

The update comes after shoppers realised they had not received any Sparks membership offers from the store following reports of a cyber attack on the historic retailer, earlier in the year.

In April, the company took down part of its IT systems and stopped sales through its website after being targeted by hackers, with the store later confirming they had “paused” sending out any Sparks offers to their customers until all “technical issues have been resolved”.

On Thursday, M&S said its Sparks membership has now been fully restored after 12 weeks of being suspended, and will provide a “range of thank you treats and rewards” to customers.

Sparks card members will now be able to access a range of rewards across the store’s fashion and home products. The store will also be reinstating its coffee stamp scheme, which allows customers to redeem a free coffee in M&S cafés after they collect six stamps.

The store will also restart its birthday treats for Sparks members, with M&S set to hand out gifts to those celebrating their birthday this month, as well as belated treats to those who missed out in May and June.

M&S has also said it will increase its colleague discount this weekend from 20% to 30% for fashion, home and beauty as a ‘thank you’. The store will also extend a 10% discount to contractors for the first time outside of Christmas.

Sharry Cramond, director of loyalty, fashion, home & beauty marketing, said: “Over the last three months, our colleagues have demonstrated real commitment and teamwork.

“At the same time, our customers have shown us fantastic support and loyalty. These extra Sparks rewards are a small gesture to say thank you.”

The news comes after four young people were arrested for their suspected involvement in cyber attacks against M&S, the Co-op and Harrods, with all four individuals being bailed on Wednesday, June 16, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
