McNally 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-3 Tomljanović

What a victory for Caty McNally. The American prevails over Ajla Tomljanović in three sets, winning in two hours and 40 minutes.

There was plenty of drama in the final game of the match.

Tomljanović, with a game point on her racket, had an extended rally with McNally. The American showcased her trademark defense behind the baseline while Tomljanović didn’t do much with the ball at the net.

McNally won the next two points, which included blasting a forehand return at the body of the Aussie on match point, who sailed the ensuing groundstroke long.

This is McNally’s first main draw singles win at the French Open. She couldn’t play in the tournament due to injury the last three years.

Now, McNally is into the second round, where she will face Belinda Bencic.
