Emergency services descended on Formby Beach this afternoon following concerns for the safety of a teenage girl. Merseyside Police, the coastguard and North West Ambulance Service were called to Formby Beach on Albert Road at around 3.30pm on Monday, May 25.

Police said a 15-year-old girl was taken to hospital following the incident and that her family have been informed. The response involved a large emergency services presence, including the air ambulance, a coastguard helicopter and several police incident response vehicles.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We can confirm that emergency services are in Formby following an incident this afternoon, Monday, May 25.

“At around 3.30pm, police, the coastguard and NWAS were called to Formby Beach, Albert Road to reports of a concern for the safety of a 15-year-old girl.

“She has been taken to hospital and her family are aware. Enquiries are ongoing at the scene.

“Further updates will be issued when appropriate.”

Heavy traffic has caused severe disruption around the beach, with surrounding roads reported to be gridlocked as emergency services continue to deal with the incident.

Police have introduced a temporary one-way system in an attempt to ease congestion, though significant delays remain across the area.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area where possible to allow emergency vehicles clear access to the scene.
