It’s the second time in a week the bridge has been shut for safety inspections

The Menai Bridge has been forced to close for the second time in a week after an “overweight vehicle” crossed it.
Traffic Wales posted on X this morning: “Due to an overweight vehicle crossing the bridge the road must be closed to carry out an inspection of the bridge. We will reopen the bridge as soon as it is safe to do so.”
The closure has led to major delays on the A55 as vehicles cross the Britannia Bridge. A car fire on the B5420 in Penmynydd is also causing disruption on Anglesey.
Anglesey Council said: “Due to a car fire on the B5420 road in Penmynydd (near Fferm Sarn Fraint), our Highways team has closed the road.
“As the Menai Suspension Bridge is also closed and the area heavily congested – we would encourage motorists to use the A5025 from Four Crosses to Pentraeth and then the B5109 from Pentraeth to Llangefni.”

Traffic jams compounded by car fire
A nearby B road has also been closed at Penymynydd, compounding traffic jams after the Menai Bridge was again shut due to an “overweight vehicle” crossing.
