Honkai: Star Rail publisher HoYoverse will reportedly invest up to $14.6 billion in AI over the next three years.
According to GameLook (via GamingonPhoneBiz), the announcement was made during a private technology and recruitment session on May 15 for master’s and doctoral students.
During the session, HoYoverse co-founder Liu Wei outlined the company’s long-term AI strategy and its move toward in-house AI development.
HoYoverse detailed plans to develop an internal AI ecosystem, including GPU clusters, training systems, and application architecture, rather than relying only on external AI models.
The company stated AI will be central to future game development, enhancing NPC systems, automation, content generation, and live-service environments. HoYoverse plans to use these tools in its upcoming life simulation title, Petit Planet, featuring AI-powered NPCs.
HoYoverse joins Krafton in adopting an AI-centric development approach. Last year, the South Korean publisher announced its intention to become an “AI-first company.”
The publisher said it would “prioritise AI as a central and primary means of problem-solving” and “foster change in individuals and organisations, increase company-wide productivity, and accelerate mid- to long-term corporate value growth.”
This included a complete reorganisation, a $69.7 million investment in a new GPU cluster, and an additional $20.8 million to retain its workforce through AI tools.
