WEST END FINAL

Avocados, limes, green tea and olive oil are among the food products set to get cheaper under proposed Government tariff cuts.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves hopes to bring down the cost of “everyday essentials” as conflict in the Middle East continues to push up prices.

The tariff cuts will be consulted on by the Treasury, with the survey opening on Wednesday and running until June 24.

The Government is also investigating whether suspending tariffs on some fertilisers could help farmers with rising prices caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

It comes after the Chancellor introduced a raft of measures to help struggling families this summer.

Ms Reeves said: The war in Iran isn’t our war, but one we will need to respond to, and my priority is keeping prices down for households and businesses.

“That’s why we’re freezing fuel duty, increasing the mileage rate for the first time in 15 years and slashed VAT temporarily this Summer to help reduce the cost of days out.”
