Luke Humphries talking to Sky Sports: “It is emotional, you are playing in these big finals and it shows you what it means to these players. You are on the road for 16 or 17 weeks and some of the players are lucky that they get to take their family with them but I’m not one of them, I don’t really get to take my family with me, and it is hard work. This is what you do everything for – you want that trophy because it eels like it is all worth it in the end.
“I was just unlucky today. I played well – it was a great final. I don’t know the stats but it was one of the best finals the Premier League has seen. I was gutted he didn’t miss that double top, but that is just darts. I am proud of myself for the way I’ve come back and got myself to the O2 and given him a good game. That is what I always say, make it tough to beat you. He played a brilliant game so fair play to him.
“I am incredibly proud of myself. I said to myself ‘just get yourself there’ and it is a free run. I always feel relaxed against him because i know I’m going to have to play well but a 111 average is a winning mentality and that is a winner. I look forward to next year and the Matchplay and trying to get him again and run him close again!”
