Super League

Just six rounds of Super League action remain as we approach what promises to be an intriguing conclusion to the regular season.

Hull KR sit on top of the table at present, and they maintained their four-point advantage by beating Castleford Tigers at Craven Park on Saturday. Wigan Warriors are marginally behind in the League Leaders’ Shield race after their win over Warrington Wolves, while Leeds Rhinos, St Helens, Hull FC and Huddersfield Giants were the other winners in round 21.

Here’s our Super League round 21 team of the week.

Super League team of the week

Full-back: Lachie Miller (Leeds Rhinos)

Miller has been in impressive form for some time now and the Leeds full-back played a key role on Thursday night as Leeds beat Leigh Leopards. He grabbed a try and an assist while also making 184 metres in 23 carries.

Wing: Joe Burgess (Hull KR)

A hat-trick for the winger who many people believe should be in the England squad come the autumn. Burgess set one more up against the Tigers while he also ran for 152m and produced four tackle busts and four clean breaks.

Centre: Taane Milne (Huddersfield Giants)

Jacob Gagai and George Flanagan were the stars of the show for Huddersfield, but Taane Milne was superb in the centre spots. He carried the ball 24 times and in doing so managed to rack up 182m.

Centre: Harry Robertson (St Helens)

Robertson just continues to shine in the Saints backline and if he can carry his form into the final six weeks of the season and beyond, he’ll be a dead cert for the England squad. A try and three tackle busts at Belle Vue for Robertson.

Wing: Lewis Martin (Hull FC)

Martin scored four tries against Salford to put himself on top of the Super League try scoring charts. He grabbed two assists too while also going for 165 metres. The quality of opposition should be taken into account of course and that’s why there’s not too many more Hull players in this XIII.

Half-back: Brodie Croft (Leeds Rhinos)

A top class showing from the half-back who saw a try harshly ruled out before getting over in the final few minutes to secure the win for the Rhinos.

Half-back: Jack Farrimond (Wigan Warriors)

Two tries on an impressive night for the youngster, who played a pivotal role in Wigan’s win over Warrington Wolves. He’s got big things ahead of him.

Prop: Cooper Jenkins (Leeds Rhinos)

A workhorse through the middle. Jenkins managed to run for 99 metres with the ball in hand while still making 34 tackles in the middle for Leeds.

Hooker: Jarrod O’Connor (Leeds Rhinos)

Another who ran his blood to water for the Leeds cause. He completed 51 tackles on the night for the Rhinos on what was an impressive showing from the hooker.

Prop: Alex Walmsley (St Helens)

A big showing from the prop who somehow finds himself on the outside of the England squad at present. He got himself over for a try, but he managed to go for 129m in 14 carries at Belle Vue.

Second-row: Jed Cartwright (Hull FC)

Another brace for the forward, who has spent much of the season on the sidelines through injury. He was excellent against the Red Devils before being withdrawn and wrapped in cotton wool.

Second-row: Liam Farrell (Wigan Warriors)

One try, one assist, 97 metres and 24 tackles on the night for Wigan’s captain fantastic.

Loose-forward: Morgan Knowles (St Helens)

Knowles’ stats from Friday night make for crazy reading with the NRL bound loose-forward making 38 tackles, 106 metres, four tackle busts and a clean break. That’s not to mention the try and assist he recorded, too.
