Clare was ‘a devoted wife, a fiercely loving mother and an amazing sister’

Poignant tributes have been paid to a much-loved mum-of-seven and “beautiful soul” who has tragically passed away at the age of 43. Clare Steadman died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 22 following a brave and steadfast battle with cancer.
She leaves behind children Leo, Logan, Jake, Lola, Thomas, Blake and Bella-Rose, devoted husband Mark and family, friends and neighbours who loved her. Clare’s beloved sister, Tracy, said: “She was loving and caring and would give you the shirt off her back. She was everything.
“A fantastic mum, an absolutely amazing sister. She was just our world.
“She was the most selfless person I’ve ever known. She’d put herself last just to help anyone else. She just loved life and loved everyone. She didn’t have an angry bone in her body.”
Clare was initially diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2023 but was told by doctors she was in remission following successful treatment. However, following a routine scan one year later, she was given the devastating news that she had stage-four terminal lung cancer.
“She just carried on with a smile on her face,” said Tracy. “Even when she was feeling rotten, she just smiled through it.
“She loved bingo and doing creative activities, playing with the kids and just being around people. That was just Clare, helping others. We’d say, ‘come on Clare, you need to start thinking about yourself’. She’d say, ‘I can do that another day.'”

Grimsby charity East Marsh United, who looked after Clare as a tenant in one of their renovated “forever homes” on Rutland Street, has set up a fundraiser to help Clare’s family with funeral and day-to-day living costs during this difficult time.
A spokesperson for East Marsh United said: “Clare was a pillar of the East Marsh community, a devoted wife, a fiercely loving mother and an amazing sister. Her passing has left a massive hole in all our hearts, and she will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
“As a community, we want to take away some of the financial burden during this unimaginably difficult time. Clare gave so much love to everyone around her. Now, it’s our turn to give a little bit of that love back to the family she adored above all else.”
