Sam Scott is seen as a future Wales international

Cardiff are interested in signing former Wales U20s tighthead Sam Scott on loan from Bristol Bears.
The 20-year-old has long been regarded as a future Wales international and Warren Gatland was tempted to take Scott on the senior tour to Australia in 2024 before resisting the temptation.
Tighthead prop is an area of grave concern in Wales and those involved in the Welsh Rugby Union’s high performance department want to accelerate Scott’s development.
Scott is currently contracted to Bristol and has been learning from the likes of England and Lions star Ellis Genge in training.

But he has found game-time hard to come by and has played much of his rugby for Dings Crusaders in National One.
At least one other Welsh club has also tried to strike a deal to take Scott on loan but failed.
No deal is agreed but Cardiff are interested and Scott is likely to get more game-time in the United Rugby Championship than he’d get in the Gallagher Prem in the short term.
This season Cardiff signed Wales U20s pair Ioan Emanuel and Ieuan Davies on loan from Bath with both players playing most of their Rygby in Super Rygbi Cymru.
They could potentially do the same with Scott if Bears director of rugby Lam agrees.
Scott is a good technical scrummager who is a dynamic carrier and got through a mountain of defensive work in Wales U20s’ famous victory over England U20s in the 2025 U20s Six Nations.
Wales are short of proven options at tighthead prop, increasing the importance of fast-tracking the development of youngsters such as Scott, Jac Pritchard and Kian Hire over the coming years.
