Emma Corrin has said they are “daunted” by “people’s completely natural love to compare things” ahead of starring in the new Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
The classic Jane Austen novel is in the process of being adapted once again for the screen by the streaming giant, in a series being directed by Euros Lyn and written by Dolly Alderton, which is expected to be released by the end of 2026.
However, in a new interview with Variety, Corrin, who is set to play the lead character of Elizabeth Bennet, admitted that they were a little intimidated by the idea of taking on such an iconic role.
“I’m very daunted about it because of people’s completely natural love to compare things, which I also do, terribly,” the actor said, seemingly referencing the last major screen adaptation of the classic text, in the form of the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, as well as the iconic 1995 BBC miniseries.
However, Corrin added, “But I’m also incredibly excited. I had the best time. It was one of my favourite jobs that I’ve done.”
The actor, who is best-known for playing Princess Diana in The Crown, said the most notable and enjoyable aspect of filming this version of Pride and Prejudice was the fact that “we had so many women in our crew, which was very rare. And obviously, there were so many women in that cast.”
Corrin added that this was particularly important as “you just really feel the difference, energy-wise — you feel how special it is, but also the rarity means that there’s so much work to be done.”
Alongside Corrin, the all-star cast of the Netflix adaptation is not limited to Jack Lowden, playing Mr Darcy, Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet, and Rufus Sewell as Mr Bennet.
The series is also set to feature turns from the likes of Freya Mavor, Rhea Norwood, Jamie Demetriou, Daryl McCormack, and Louis Partridge.
