Great British amateur ace Odel Kamara has announced he is turning professional.
The 21-year-old from Liverpool, England, enjoyed a successful stint in the unpaid ranks for Team Great Britain and the Salisbury Amateur Boxing Club. Kamara won seven national titles and multiple international medals, most notably a World Championship bronze last year.
The 71 kg fighter was pipped as one of the favorites from the UK to claim a medal at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, but Kamara has decided to make a switch. Kamara’s athleticism and exciting style have had managers and promoters circling him in an attempt to gain his signature. British boxing manager Sam Jones seems to have won that battle and today (June 2) announced that Kamara had signed a management deal with himself. Jones also stated an announcement on a promotional deal and Kamara’s professional debut would come in the coming weeks.
“Absolutely delighted to announce the signing of amateur sensation Odel Kamara,” Jones wrote on social media. “If you know boxing you know this man is going to the very top. Huge news to follow in the next few weeks regarding promotional deal and debut. This is a professional journey you don’t want to miss.”
Kamara thanked his Team GB coaches at the English Institute of Sport by writing on social media: “Want to thank all the coaches, staff, and boxers at GB Boxing for making my time on the squad so memorable. I loved every second of representing my country. I appreciate everyone on the squad and wish you the best.
