Manchester United have reportedly already made their move to try and sign West Ham star Mateus Fernandes.
The update comes as United move closer to signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson to complete their first deal of the summer transfer window.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, United have agreed a total package worth £38.8million with the Serie A outfit to sign Ederson, which includes an initial £35million fee plus £3.8million in add-ons.
United will be hoping that a deal for Ederson is completed as soon as possible, so they can turn their attention to the rest of their summer transfer business.

It’s also understood that West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes is a target for United this summer, with the club potentially taking advantage of the Hammers being relegated to the Championship.
A report by ESPN has provided an update on Fernandes’ future, with United getting a mention. The report claims that the Reds have already approached West Ham about a potential deal for the 21-year-old playmaker.
It has been suggested that Fernandes is likely to leave the Hammers this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League, although it’s unclear at this point what chances United have at being able to strike a deal for the Portugal international.
Arsenal have also previously been credited with an interest in signing Fernandes in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen if the player would prefer a move to United or North London this summer.
West Ham signed Fernandes from Southampton last summer for a reported fee worth £42million, and went on to score four goals across 38 appearances during his debut season at the London Stadium.

A report in the Daily Mail this week claimed that the Hammers would demand around £80million to allow Fernandes to leave the club this summer, as they prepare to adjust to life in the Championship. But suitors fancy their chances of lowering that fee.
United are expected to be in the market for at least two midfielders this summer, with Ederson’s arrival expected to be the first.
It remains to be seen if United will go on to sign Fernandes this summer, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Newcastle duo Sandro Tonali and Bruno Fernandes, as well as Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni are just some of the other midfielders mentioned as potential targets.
