A blues album recorded in Jersey has been nominated for a prestigious USA music award.

Ten Chicago Blues Classics was recorded by Jersey-born Blues harmonica virtuoso Giles Robson and triple Grammy nominee John Primer in the Golden Apple Suite in the Pomme D’Or.

It has been nominated for a Blues Blast Music Award in the Acoustic Blues Album’ category.

Mr Robson was inspired to play the blues harmonica after first hearing the instrument at the Jersey Arts Centre at the age of 14.

He embarked on an international career and become one of only three UK artists to ever win a Blues Music Award in Memphis – the other two being Eric Clapton and Peter Green.

Mr Robson worked on the Ten Chicago Blues Classics album with Blues Hall of Fame inductee John Primer.

He was the last lead guitarist for American musician Muddy Waters and has since received acclaim as a major star.

Described as “the perfect match up of two blues greats” by Blues in Britain Magazine, the album was funded by Jersey’s Creative Island Partnership.

Artists should bring collaborators here [to Jersey] and use what we have here to our own creative advantage rather than look to work elsewhere

Mr Robson said: “It was great to record in Jersey.

“Every time I bring an artist over they fall in love with the beauty of the Island and feel very relaxed as all the shows are so close together in terms of distance.

“Artists should bring collaborators here and use what we have here to our own creative advantage rather than look to work elsewhere.”

He added: “When I first met John he raved about what I was doing and immediately asked to work with me more.”

Mr Robson and Mr Primer will be travelling to Romania, Belgium, Denmark, the Czech Republic, France and the UK in the autumn to perform songs from the album.

The Blues Blast Music Award winners will be decided by public vote, which is open until 30 August, and can be found at bluesblastmagazine.com/vote.
