West Midlands Police has appealed for anyone with information to get in touch as a hunt to find the attacker continues.
The force said it was called to reports of an attack in Walford Road. Around 40 minutes later, the victim, a man in his 40s, was confirmed dead at the scene.
A full statement from the force read:
We’ve launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death in Birmingham this evening. We were called to Walford Road in Sparkbrook at around 6.20pm after a man, believed to be in his 40s, had been attacked. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at around 7pm. No arrests have yet been made, and our officers remain at the scene this evening as we recover CCTV and speak to witnesses. Anyone with information, CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage from the area at the time should contact 101, quoting log 4881 of 4 June.
