Lamont Roach has earned a shot at the world title again over a year on from his controversial draw with Gervonta Davis.
Roach had an extremely unfortunate 2025, as he first missed out on the WBA world title after a controversial draw with Davis.

His rival touched down on the canvas in what wasn’t counted as a knockdown, and the pair then couldn’t be separated on the judges’ tallies.
Afterwards, a majority draw was declared between himself and Isaac Cruz for the WBC interim title later that year, where he was unfortunate not to get the nod.
But the doom and gloom has finally been lifted, having now earned a deserved shot at the WBC lightweight crown.
It has been officially confirmed that he will take on William Zepeda for the vacant title, after the governing body ordered the clash following Stevenson’s departure from the division.

The event will land in Las Vegas on August 1, and will land on cable TV in the US via TNT and truTV, while being made available worldwide on DAZN.
Roach and Zepeda’s clash will headline DAZN’s latest series ‘The Fight’ and could well deliver a thrilling spectacle.
Roach and Zepeda react to title shot
The former is extremely excited to be competing again for world glory.
It would see him become a two-weight champion, having also won straps at super-featherweight.
He said of the clash: “This is my fourth consecutive world title fight [sic] coming up in a different weight class.
“No doubt, I am bringing boxing back, and I’m coming for the top spot. I want the pound-for-pound belt layer.”

On the night, he will face a stubborn challenge against Zepeda, who has lost just once as a pro.
Zepeda was only beaten by a pound-for-pound top fighter in Shakur Stevenson last time out, and it will be his second stab at the belt after his conqueror vacated it.
He said: “We’ve been working hard since my last fight.
“We’re at the forefront of the lightweight division, and we know every opponent at this level presents a serious challenge.
“Once again, we’ve been given the opportunity to fight for a world championship, and we’re ready to show the world exactly who ‘El Camarón’ Zepeda is.
“I hope Lamont comes fully prepared, because we’re going to put on a great show for the fans.”
